The following incidents are under investigation by the Patrick County Sheriff's Office:

 

The J.E.B. Stuart Birthplace, a historical site in Ararat, was damaged in the early morning hours of February 3rd. According to the report, a person or persons set fire to a picnic table at Laurel Hill, the Stuart birthplace. The fire completely destroyed the picnic table and caused damage to the grounds in the surrounding area.

 

A breaking and entering occurred January 29th on Microfilm Road. Items taken included a Stevens double-barrel .16 guage shotgun, a New England Arms .20 guage shotgun, a bolt-ac tion .22 rifle, a Hawkins .50 caliber black powder rifle, a Winchester .12 guage automatic shotgun, a Marlin .22 rifle, and change totaling close to $300.
